Monday Planning

As I mentioned in my last post, this week is going to be a very, very busy one.

Today, although the morning will be long, is one my son is very much looking forward to. Today is the day he get's his braces!! He has a very severely recessed lower jaw, and his top teeth are protruding and crooked. We don't even notice it anymore, but he does and he begged us for braces. It was a bit of a financial hit, since braces cost $5200, but of course, for our children, we'll do whatever we have to, right?

Well, much to our surprise and delight, hubby's mom and dad paid for the braces! They went in Friday and paid the whole bill in full! This means, that not only do we not have to pay for the braces ourselves, we are going to be able to keep the money from selling hubby's truck to buy a small car for him! We were going to use the money from the truck to pay for the braces, but thanks to this, we don't have to. The truck still has to go, it's an absolute gas hog (approximately $400/month just in gas to run it!!!) but now there's not as big of a rush on it.

Here is a photo of my son playing piano with a little guy in my daycare

It's a bit hard to see unitl you click on the photo to enlarge it, but if you do, then you can see how his top teeth stick out. When he closes his mouth, one of his teeth actually juts out over his bottom lip.

He has to wear the braces for 18 months to 2 years, then a retainer for 6 months to a year. After that, the orthodontist will be putting in a permenant retainer, which is a metal bar that will be glued to the back of his front teeth and will stay there for the rest of his life.

Like I said, he is incredibly excited about this. He's been looking forward to it for about a year now.

So, that's today. It will take about 2 hours to put the braces on. Afterwards, I need to go to WalMart for dog food, then home for a quiet afternoon, just in case his mouth is sore.

Because the week will be so long, the menu isn't much to brag about. LOL! I scheduled easy meals that are quick to make up.

Monday - one pan chicken (this is by request of my son. It's soft and very easy to chew if his mouth is sore)
Tuesday - nothing. We won't be home
Wednesday - inside out ravioli's (by request of my daughter. She won't be eating much after her wisdom teeth surgery on Thursday and this is her favourite meal.)
Thursday - pizza and fries. (easy meal, just put it in the oven. DD won't be eating so it will be just ds and myself)
Friday - beans and weiners with homemade bread. (something soft and easy to chew if dd feels like eating. And it's something different and fun for ds)
Saturday - pork stir fry (Saturday will be the first day I have to just sit back and relax all week. I'm really, really looking forward to this day!)

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get online this week. It's going to be so busy. But I am going to try to share some recipes at least.

If I don't talk with you all again, have a great week!

  4. Congrats to the son on getting braces! I'm glad you're getting it fixed for him. I have the same issue (just not to that degree) and because it was never fixed with braces when I was younger, I'll always have it unless I want surgery to fix it. No way. So good for you for fixing it for him, and even planning on selling your vehicle to do it. You're a good momma!

  10. Hi! I'm a new follower via the wild wednesday hop. Oh braces I remember those days. I had mine from 7th grade to junior year of high school. My teeth were really bad and had to get four pulled just to fit all my teeth in my mouth. Tell your son to make sure he brushes after every meal and keep those teeth happy :) It's all worth it in the end!

I hope you are having a good day
